Market Visual Awareness Project | Part Two

Remember how I said I would update every time I moved my project further? Here is another sector of the summative brief that was given over christmas. Continuing on from looking at brand advertisements and retail visual merchandising, I have now moved on to how culturally, socially and historically denim has had an impact on what it is today.

I first of course started with collecting pictures of everything that inspired me. I used my little sketchbook that I started pasting picture in from the start. I looked through this book and also, found myself in the creative corner of the internet and left in awe. People around the world were talking their old denim or jeans and were making craft out of it. These images below are some of the hundreds I found. I used a few of these images in my magazine report talking about how denim is not only used as a fashion tool but across different media platforms.

I then talked about how has changed over time. I find it fascinating that the first pair of jeans was made for the working class men and was appreciated for it durability. However, in today society wearing jeans isn't even a fashion statement. Women wearing jeans has of course gone through its faze of maturity, as women were only supposed to wear dresses and skirts and wearing jeans was making a clear feminist point. There a two obvious stories being told wearing jeans, one - that its easy and comfy to pair with anything and almost a no brainer outfit. On the other hand, the new rips and distressed trend has brought on a more sexy and promiscuous story.

As for my report, the writing was an easy flow for this section as I knew exactly what I wanted to say. I am looking forward to moving on to the next part and to be completely honest, can not wait till I physically hold the magazine/report in my hands.

Love,
Sanjana
