Pointless Book Signing

Hello for the last time from 2014
I laterally cannot believe its officially 2015. How crazy!
I hope y'all have an ace year ahead.

Through out this week, I've been going through things in my life that I know is full of clutter and organising it. In fact, I even got a FiloFax which is essentially a diary/planner. I'll let you know how I'm doing with that another day when I get more into it. But, I was going through my camera roll and realised how fun this year has been. My grandparents for the first time visited my mom and I in the Uk, I turned 18, met a few celebrities, I'm finally in year 13 (I've done 2 years of year 12 because of travelling and moving), I moved out, etc. One of my favourite things that happened this year was meeting Alfie Deyes! For those of you who don't know who Alfie is, he's another awesome person on YouTube that I love very much. He makes really cute and pointless videos which is pretty ironic because his YouTube channel is called 'PointlessBlog'
A couple of months ago, Alfie released a book called 'Pointless Book' which is quite cool. The book is filled with pointless puzzles and games, designed to be filled in when you're bored and in a mood for something pointless to do. Now obviously the YouTube community went crazy, made him number one on various charts for several weeks.

He announced a week later that he was going to do book singings in a few cities around the UK. Of course I was going to support him and showed up at his London signing.
The book signing was held at Waterston's and started at 1pm. Erin mentioned the day before that it might be a good idea to start queueing up at about 7am.  I immediately brushed that idea off and said theres no point getter there before 11am. To my surprise, when we got there at 11am, there were at least five thousand people queued up. Yup, five THOUSAND!

This is a photo I took after walking for about 15 minutes to find the end of the queue. The crowd was so crazy that cops on horses showed up.

This is a video I recoded of a group of girls we met that were in front of us. They were probably 13 or 14 years old. I looked around and realised that we're probably one of the oldest people in line, other than parents accompanying their little children. Nonetheless, we made friends with these girls. We found out about half an hour into our day, that because of the amount of unexpected crowd, they were going to cut the line after 700 people for safety. We were very annoyed and confused to say the least. Alfie, Waterstone's or the people that were there expected how bit it was going to be. He thought maybe 1000 or so would show up but this was madness. The girls in front and us noticed that Alfie was constantly tweeting about the event so we decided to create a hashtag and try to get it treading, so we can ask him not to cut the line. #dontcutthelineAlfie. I know, creative right! *sarcastic smile*
We then realised that the 8 us tweeting would not be enough to get it treading. So, we started screaming as group 'don't cut the line Alfie! Get it treading!' over and over again.

The number of people increased as the day went on. The crowd got crazier and people were running around going MENTAL! So the queue no longer remained a queue, more like a road of screaming fan-girls. By the time we got to about half way, the entire crowd was now screaming 'don't cut the line','don't cut the line'. We were amazed and shocked that something we were shouting as a little group to ourselves was now being yelled out by 8 thousand people!
The hashtag never treaded but it was still very cool.

A few hours later, while Alfie was inside signing a thousand copies of his book, guess who showed up. The man, the legend, Dom! To be honest I'm not too sure what he does but from what I gather he is some sort of manager to a lot of YouTubers. He works for a company called Gleam and they're the ones that bring really cool opportunities outside YouTube for YouTubers.

Just found this picture really funny. Look at Dom trying to get through those crazy fan girls. We would all make really good paparazzi's.

After a few hours, once the queue had calmed down a little, well again, wasn't much of a queue but the security and police were trying their best to keep us safe.
All the 700 tickets were given out so I think a lot of people from the front decided there was no point waiting, which meant we were in front. Even though we didn't have tickets, we thought we'll wait it out. Good things come to thoes who are patient. You guessed right! We got in! The manager of Waterstone's saw us all still queued up. Erin and I were first in line and I remember begging him with my eyes and for some strange reason, bless him, he let us go through. I heard screaming fan girls running behind me but only 5 of us got in. Even though we were the first in line, somehow, we were the last in line when we got into the room. I am not complaining because one, we got in and two, no one was allowed selfies as there were too many people to get through. You got your book signed, said hello to Alfie and walked out. Fortunately, because Erin and I were at the end, we got a selfie! I also got a selfie with Maddie, who I think is one of his other managers from Gleam. I was pretty chuffed I recognised her she is only in a few of his vlogs hence not many people know her. But wait, that's not it. Here is the best bit, drum roll please, he got his camera out and vlogged us to be a part of his video for waiting so long. 6 hours in the rain, well worth it!

The reason this event was my favourites of the year is because I was part of  something really special. People are always behind a screen or a keyboard when they comment and watch these videos but seeing them as a community, in person was really amazing, an experience that's unforgettable.

Pointless Book to purchase if you're interested

I've had one of the best year so far and I hope 2015 is even better!

I wish you all a very Happy New year. Hope for lots of happiness and success for everyone.

Cheers!
